I reported several months back when Fox Faith was announced as a major studio’s bid to reach the evangelical audience discovered by the Passion‘s super boffo box office and last month when Sylvester Stallone began doing telephone conferences with church leaders. Now Bob and Harvey Weinstein, founders of Miramax, one of the pioneering independent production houses famous for anything but catering to the traditional Christian crowd, have announced a deal to, like Fox Faith produce several faith-based films a year. Will these enterprising producers bring an art house touch to what might otherwise be safe and bland storytelling? Will they connect to the filmmakers who understand what will resonate with believers eager to see quality stories that speak to them?
